No matter the size or breed, every dog needs an outlet to use up their extra energy and maintain optimum health and fitness.
Dogs have a lot of energy, and if they don’t get a chance to burn off that energy, they will turn to other means of expressing it. If your dog is barking excessively or engaging in a lot of destructive behavior, they may not be getting enough exercise! Providing your dog with ample exercise opportunities is an important part of being a responsible dog owner. We know you may be wondering, well, how much exercise does my dog need?
We know that sometimes it may not seem like their energy needs are very high. Especially when you see your dog sleeping on the couch all day! Well, here’s a fun fact for you! Did you know that dogs are considered crepuscular animals? Crepuscular animals remain at rest during the day and at night, and are most active during dawn and dusk hours. On average, adult dogs sleep 12-14 hours per day. This number increases for puppies, who sleep up to 18 hours per day. Dogs are generally only active for 20% of their day, which makes it even more important to provide them with high-quality exercise opportunities.
