Are you a pet enthusiast and a craftista? Then this project is for you. Today I am showing you how to make your own leash holder! I made this today for one of our longest residents at The Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA), Mallow. She is such a sweetie.
This craft was SO easy and fun! I love when crafts don’t take too terribly long and still yield cute results!! Follow the photos below to see how I made it. Also, check out Mallow in action.
These are the things you will need:
–Wooden plaque with hook and hanger (I used the Coat Hanger by ArtMinds from Michael’s. It’s only $3.39! However, you can also make your own with a piece of wood, a hook, and a hanger. That would be more work, but certainly more unique!)
–Photo of your furry friend
–Mod Podge (water-based sealer, glue, and finish)
–Sharpies, Paint, or Glitter glue for decorating!
Step 1: First, you’ll want to pick and print a photo for your project. I took a digital photo of Mallow and added her name on Photoshop, but that’s not a necessary step if you don’t want to or aren’t sure how. Just print the photo as-is, cut it to size, and paint or write your pet’s name on it!
Step 2: Cut the photo to the size of your wooden plaque. Pour Mod Podge into a small dish and apply a coat to the bare wood. It will act as an adhesive for your photo. Press the photo onto the wet Mod Podge and smooth out any wrinkles.
Step 3: Coat the top of your photo and the sides of the wood with Mod Podge. It will look cloudy, but don’t worry that your project is ruined. Mod Podge will dry clear and leave a shiny, protective finish on your photo and plaque.
Step 4: Next, it’s time to decorate! I used Sharpies for mine, but you can use acrylic paint, glitter paint, or anything else you want! It might be fun to glue some sequins or buttons around the edges, too. Go crazy!
Step 5: Hang it up near the door! Your pet’s leash will fit nicely on the hook, and it’ll make you smile every time you go to take your pet for a walk. The picture below shows our final project.
Now you know how to make your own leash holder! Leave a comment with a picture of your project, so I can see how they turned out. Happy crafting!
